Greetings Parents and Friends...

We are so very happy to have you with us in our new community.

This web site is devoted primarily to aiding us parents to grow in our Affective Skills; to deal more effectively with our children, especially with our teenagers and, through use of our skills, to help them to deal more effectively, respectfully and responsibly with others.

What Are Affective Skills?

The ability to understand and to deal effectively in our relationships with other people comes about first as we strive to better understand ourselves and endeavor to find the balance in our lives. This involves:

  • Discovering our Internal Worth,

  • Developing our Unique Talents,

  • Culturing a Positive Outlook,

  • Raising our Personal Integrity, and

  • Accepting our Humanness.

Coupled with this is the need to undertand how we communicate and interact with one another, how our relationships with other people actually work and how we affect others positively or negatively by what we say and do.

Important to this process of personal growth is the learning and practicing of basic Affective Skills. These skills help us to:

  • Develop Respect for Ourselves and Others,
  • Become more Responsible for our actions and what we Bring to those around us,
  • Improve our Speaking and Listening abilities,
  • Change our Expectations,
  • Understand and Control our Anger, and
  • Increase our ability to Solve Problems and Set Goals.

Through the help of affective skills we can more and more get what we truly want by first coming to appreciate and develop what we already have. From this ever growing base we then become increasingly able to invite others, in dignified and respectful ways, to interact constructively and grow together with us.

We parents especially need to understand the nature and value of our relationships with our children. By doing so and by actively exercising our affective skills, we can give always the very best of ourselves and so bring out the very best in our children within the learning grounds of life.

Affective Skills Are For Everyone

We think you will find that the information, suggestions, inspirations and experiences shared here are valuable not only for parents. These examples are truly life lessons for all of us who wish to become more sincere and genuine in life by relating more affectively with other people. And are there any of us who do not relate with other people in our families, in our friendships, our jobs and throughout our lives?

To Learn More

We have several projects on-going and in development. All are intended to grow our affective skills and bring us closer together as a community; to lend support and share openly and honestly our challenges, impressions and experiences in relating to our families, friends and all those around us. Through this building of community we hope to aid the fostering of personal relationships that maintain dignity and respect for self and others.
