Parent Exploratory Group...A Special Event I am sending this announcement to inform you of an upcoming event that I think you will find very much of interest. As you know from Larry Evans' earlier announcement, Ms. Constance Dembrowsky, president of the Institute for Affective Skill Development, is scheduled to provide a seminar entitled, "From Disruptive to Self-Disciplined: Strategies for At-Risk Students" subtitled "Practical Strategies for Motivating Disinterested, Defiant Students." The seminar is sponsored by the Bureau of Education and Research and will be held on Friday, March 8 at the Holiday Inn, Grantville, PA. Connie Dembrowsky is the author of the "Personal and Social Responsibility" curriculum which forms the source for Larry's DCTS Parent Seminar. Connie has been in contact with Larry concerning her visit to our area and has offered to participate in an evening meeting of our Parent Exploratory Group (PEG) following her seminar appearance. This special meeting is planned for:
With this announcement we cordially invite each of you to join us Friday night if you possibly can. This informal get together promises a wonderful opportunity for you to meet and talk with this nationally recognized educator whose efforts in improving personal relationships through affective skills have changed the lives of many teens and parents. You will also have the chance to learn more about our PEG project and meet some of the parents and other friends of DCTS who have regularly been involved. Larry has spent time with Connie and describes her as a powerful person who has deeply touched him. I too have talked to Connie by telephone and find her intensely thoughtful, sincere and very and down to earth. It is, to me, a distinct honor being paid to our PEG group that Connie would take time to meet with us in the midst of her very hectic, nationwide lecture schedule. Her work, brought through Larry's teaching, has had a profound impact on me and all of my family. I know it has for many of you as well. I have it very much in my plans to attend. I hope you can too. I will be happy to answer any questions you might have and will keep you apprised of new developments with this event. I very much hope to see you at DCTS on March 8. Sincerely, John Borland |
